There are still a lot of medicines she has to take and they are very expensive. We need to be in Omaha NE for another year or so to keep up with lab work to keep an eye on her progress, and to make sure that she don't reject the kidney she did receive. It is very expensive to live in Omaha and anything would help. There are still twice a week doctors visits and more surgeries to come for my little angel. Hello, My name is Jeremy Pettigrew, I am the father of 3 wonderful and beautiful children. 9 years ago I was blessed with an angel I named Laila. She was the most the beautiful and wonderous thing i had ever set my eyes on. From the very beginning her life was a struggle. She was born with a rare deformity called a cloacal anomaly, even after all these years I still dont know what that means exactly, "cloacal". Her kidneys were destroyed. She went through a surgery when she was 6 months old to remove a cystic kidney, it looked like a bunch of grapes. We were so fearful of whether or not she would make it those first years, and in fact were told perhaps she wouldnt. We were told things like she would never walk without the assistance of crutches or a walker; one day i woke up and she was walking! I knew she would, it was amazing. Then she became a big sister twice, to a brother and baby sister. She is so protective and loving, never letting anyone get bullied or hurt. Her best friend is a boy at her old school who was bullied everyday by 3 boys. One day Laila stood up for him, "LEAVE HIM ALONE" she yelled as her little fist balled up. This makes me want to cry, because someone so fragile, it seems, can be so strong and courageous. Always fighting for the helpless her aunty says. A year ago, Jan. 24th. 2011 our angel got very very ill. We were living in a small one horse town in nebraska with one clinic in the nursing home. The doctors had no idea what was going on. I watched as my baby turned from a sunkissed brown to a pale yellow green. slowly she lost her energy and was eventually so weak she just laid on the couch, saying "dad i wish i could play". I knew something wasnt right, i knew my baby was sick, I could feel how she felt. She started throwing up and convulsing. I got one cold morning and went to work, mom went to class. When i got home, laila was on the floor, she couldnt move she couldnt talk; she looked so frightened. I called 911 and the ambulance rushed us to gordon, 30 miles away, the nearest hospital. In a quick flash of tears and worry, my daughter and i were in Omaha, Ne. THE DOCTORS DIANOGSTED HER WTIH END STAGE RENAL DISEASE.
